What I love at the VW-Kaefer (Classic Beetle) and why I favour only him:
Rear Engine * Rear-Wheel Drive
- This combination is in my eyes the best solution for cars without 4-wheel-drive, because it weights the driven axle when needed, so does the best to prevent spinning and makes the beetle a real winterproof car.
Air-cooled Engine
- What is not needed can not break down... No cooling water that can run out or freeze in the winter, no water pump that might be to replaced, no radiator core that can be damaged by small stones, no water hoses that might get cracked.
- Martenproof: the classic beetle is build so genius that no marten can reach the ignition cables.
No Air-Conditioning
- The heating system brings warm air after a distance of about 1km, because there is no cooling water that has to be warmed up before.
- To use a heat-pump to cool the air then you can live without that means wasting energy.
- To have a heat-pump in the car means extra mass to accelerate, so an air-conditioning would even waste fuel while being switched off.
Large scaled Headlight-Reflectors
- The lager the scale of the effective surface a source of light has, the less blinding for the oncoming traffic, for a given luminous intensity on the road. That's why everybody loves my lights, compared with the small slide viewer style ones.
Few Electronic
- I do not trust in cars where I read that the EMI-limit is so frightening low that it is not allowed to mount UHF-Transmitters with more than 10Watt Power-Output. With my classic beetle where is no EMI risk because there is no Airbag and no ABS and so there is no critical system that might be hurt by EMI.
